Lifters

Asked by Delta238 Apr 03, 2017 at 05:29 AM about the 1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1987 chrysler fifth avenue has a loud tapping
sound when it's first started and goes away after a
few seconds. Is that the lifters, and if so how do I
fix it.

It is possible the rocker arms may need adjustment, but usually it is lifter noise, sticky lifters, try putting a additive for the lifters into the oil to try and clean varnish build up. Someone at a auto parts store can recommend an additive to try.

1987- your car is 30 years old! and the sound goes away as soon as oil pressure is up- i don't see a problem here-
