can i run my 96 accent with out the airflow meter connected and is it okay if the engine light stays on   
as if i connect it it does not want to idle and the car give of black smoke

I'd say you can drive it with out that airflow meter plugged in, in fact it sounds like the airflow meter may be bad and might even be causing the check engine light to be on, but to be sure you'll want to got to the nearest autozone or o'reilly's to have the code(s) pulled to see what it is for sure, but yes you can drive it and if the light stays on it just means that there's a diagnostic trouble code (dtc).
