What kind of bolts do I need for shocks, and struts?

Asked by D.j. Apr 28, 2016 at 05:49 AM about the 2000 Ford Mustang Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought new shocks and struts for my Mustang, but I can't find any
information about the bolts that I need to connect them.  I want to replace the
ones that are on the car because they are old.  What type, and what size would
I need for the front, and rear?

Different grade bolts are used in different applications for good reasons. There are strength trade offs. Some bolts are shear resistant but lower in stretch resistance. Some are brittle and some are soft. Some will bend a lot without breaking, some will break before bending. I try to take advantage of the factory research when replacing bolts and all fasteners. I replace with the same grade whenever possible. Grade of a bolt is easily determined by the markings on the bolt head. A tiny bit of research will find this on the internet. Any grade bolt can be chromed, even aluminum. Just rely on the grade marks on the bolt head.
