2013 Hyundai Santa Fe sport 2.0

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My mechanic said I need a driveshaft and it has to be made. It's been 2 weeks.
I don't know where he ordered it from but I have never heard of a part having
to be built. Just looking for opinions, as I am a senior citizen and have no clue
about these things. Thanks

Driveshafts need to be a certain length, and they can be manufactured on special lathes. I am surprised your mechanic didn't source an OEM one. This is question for your mechanic.

Turns out, after waiting so long, I had it towed to the Hyundai dealer. Waited two more weeks for them to even look at it. It was not the driveshaft, the rear differential was blown. Thankfully I had an extended warranty with Fidelity when I purchased the car.$3,000 job, 45 days without a car. This is why I prefer to take my car to the dealer. This mechanic would have had me pay $700.00 for a driveshaft I didn't need. Two weeks after getting the car back, I get in it push the start button, and the "system check" goes crazy, with all lights flashing and then the engine kicks on, with my A/C positions changed, and "ECO" settings go to off position.I can't wait to get rid of this thing..
