Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Is the ignition coil in the dist cap? Does the cap have a place on it that says tach? If so, use a test light on that tach terminal. One end of test light touches the tach terminal, the other end touches a clean metal spot on engine, have helper crank, does the test light pulse? If so, so far so good. Does the dist rotor turn when you crank it?
check to make sure you put the ground terminal on and screw is tight.
