Start but no crank

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I just bought this 94 chevy cheyenne 1500
single cab shortbed truck and it starts in
neutral instead of park but it's a pain to get it
to start we got it started a couple of times
but now we can't start it for nothing when
you put the key in and turn it on everything
comes on like it should but when you turn to
crank the alternator doesn't even try to turn
over

The alternator does not start the engine, the starter does. I think your neutral safety switch is out of adjustment.

Where would the neutral saftey switch be located at I looked it up and couldn't find it and I also found a wire that connects to the side of the transmission underneath and it was in shreds I think that might be part of the problem as well

Well I did some research and my year model and make it doesn't have a nuetral saftey switch

is it stick or automatic? probably neutral safety switch on clutch pedal if its stick.

if it is automatic, there is a adjustment for the switch on the side of transmission. but switch could also be bad. now if it is stick or manual shift. go down under by the clutch pedal and you will see a switch up behind the clutch arm with 2 wires going to them. connect them together and you will bypass. more info on your transmission is needed

check your battery also, with all connections going to starter. could just have a bad battery. if its older than 3 years or what the warranty is? get a new one. all lights can come on but if the battery cells are dead? your cold cranking amps is what you need to turn a motor over. so again more info is needed
Starts in neutral not park? Gotta be neutral safety switch located driver side of transmission.
