years of tramsmission problems?

It seems that Ford did have transmissions problems with the Taurus but the bulk of the problems come from Taurus manufactured before 2000. The biggest problem years for Ford seemed to be 94,95, and 96, although drivers of others years have reported problems.

I have a 96 Taurus and ever since I purchased it I've had issues with the transmission....now I have the power stearing going out, the trans, and about 1/2 the parts underneath it need fixed. It is not the Taurus's fault though, the previous owner never fixed anything and left me in a pickle. I'm getting a 2000 Ford explorer and if I can't sell my Taurus for $800 at least for the parts that are still good on it then I'll prolly keep it and fix it little by little. It'd only cost about $3,000 to fix and would be less than purchasing any other vehicle. It wouldn't be so bad if I had the cash to fix it now. But the 96 Taurus is well built and safer then most other mid size sedans. So they're not bad cars, sometimes they just have bad owners. I'd just make sure you have a mechanic you know look at anything before you buy it. Something I learned the hard way. ~Rain
