2001 Isuzu Rodeo, all gears act as neutral (auto)

Asked by Matt Jan 30, 2018 at 04:18 PM about the 2001 Isuzu Rodeo LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey guys, so someone recently stole my gas cap
off of my car. I had to drive to work that morning
with no cap. As expected the check engine light
came on. Upon driving home from work, the car
completely died while driving. Pulled over, started
right back up but none of the gears work. Park will
hold the weight of the car, but every other gear (d, r,
1 2 3) act as the car is in neutral. Took it to a shop
and they (without opening the trans) told me the
trans is blown cause the fluid is dark and I need a
new one. For some reason that doesn’t make sense
to me, it drove perfectly fine and only has 95,000
miles. Is there some sort of safety switch that was
has tripped? Locking the car in neutral?
