“Engine power is reduced”
Asked by carlosrod954 Dec 04, 2018 at 12:58 AM about the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze LT Sedan FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hi, I have a 2017 Chevy Cruze with 65k miles
and today I got a message on the dashboard
“engine power is reduced” and the check
engine light is on. Car runs fine and doesn’t
idle, but once you step on the gas it doesn’t
go into next gear unless you let go of the gas
pedal, gets stuck around 3700 rpm. Can
anyone help with this problem. Thank you

Did you get an answer on this?Mine is doing same thing.
Same thing just happened to me. I have a 2017 Chevy Cruze 5-speed.
I have a 2016 Chevy Cruze same problem but also the Engine power is reduced Service traction control Service stabilitrak appeared
Same thing on a 2013 Chevy Cruze...Does anyone have an answer yet? Is there a recall?
This is happening to me rite now I'm stuck on the side of the rd. Do you know what it is?
This is also happening on my 2011
Just happened to me tonight with my 2012. I opened the gas cap and retightened it and that worked for about 15 minutes then it happened again.
This happened to me tonight! And of course tomorrow is Sunday so the dealerships aren't open. I had to leave my car downtown and I'm hoping it doesn't get broke into. No answers? This is crazy
My 2016 Cruze just did the same thing to me. Check engine light came on and ran weak and terrible shifting. Code p2227 came up. Says it's a barometric pressure sensor issue
It was throwing a throttle position 2 sensor reading when they hooked up to my car. They cleaned those sensors, cam shaft sensors and throttle body and none of that worked. I also previously needed the cover gasket replaced, so I had that done. It didn't help. They ended up replacing the throttle body and that fixed it.
Brittany- how much did the throttle body cost?

I have a 2018 6-speed Chevy Cruze that I am picking up from the shop today for the second time with this issue. Indicated it is a sensor issue
Mine happened last week, p0299 code. Bad turbo so the shop says. Unfortunately mine isn’t under warranty or extended warranty. Buy Auto Parts has the turbo for 459, fast delivery and it’s actually not too bad of a job
My 2017 is doing that, seriously loseing power 60,000 miles
The common problem with this is that your battery has a faulty connection. It is a hit or miss problem that may happen once, or may happen multiple times. My suggestion is to get it serviced as soon as possible, and ask them to check your battery because if it is that it can only be fixed with a new battery.
Hi Cruze driver, I could this great blog family and help Mahicans for cruze cars. They helped me understand thing before I was able to get a tech out to look at my car. Visit https://www.cruzetalk.com/ When my car overheated the community helped me better understand how to move forward. If any has any additional questions at me instagram@ thequeensflow
I had this happen on my 2012 Chevy Cruze with 90k miles. Took it in to the dealership and they told me alternator, batter fuse box, and negative battery cable. Quoted $1,000 and couldn’t guarantee it’d work. I wanted to look at it and found no problems with the alternator or the batt fuse box. I cleaned the terminals and still had the issue. Running a scanner I got the code P2135 (throttle/pedal position sensor). All I did was remove the pedal and plug it back in and it went away. Removing the pedal just needs a socket wrench and a flat head screwdriver. There’s one bolt holding it in the you disconnect it with the flathead. Took 20 minutes. If it doesn’t work, a new throttle pedal costs $40 online. Try not to waste money on it if you can. Attached is a link on how to get the pedal off. Hope this helps! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AJspQoQiCuI
My 2012 is doing the same thing
Same issue on my 2014 (Engine Power is Reduced, Service Traction Control, and Service Stabilitrak), I have 100k miles. I replaced trottle/pedal cost my $38 for the part and was a 15 minute job. This worked at first for about 1 week but now I am right back to where I was before with all 3 messages back again!

There is a recall, good for 10 years or 120,000 miles. Take it to a Chevy dealer and it'll be covered.

I had this too. I found a mouse nest in the air filter. Luckily, I had a reusable, washable air filter with steel mesh when I'd replaced it in early 2020, so the mouse didn't chew thru it and I didn't have to buy a new air filter. This seems to have resolved the issue. Now I'm setting mouse traps in my garage.
