Alarm does not go off if window broken but door not opened. Once door is opened, even using emergency key you only have a few seconds to get the motor started before alarm is activated. I'd say no to the alarm and keep smash and grab articles out of sight under "secret" floor behind hatch or in trunk depending on your model.
