Isuzu Rodeo shuts off when I put it into gear. Starts and idles but as soon as I put it into gear, it shuts down. What could this be?

possibly a vacuum leak, possibly torque converter control solenoid. Did you scan for codes in the computer?
A friend said it sounds like the torque converter situation. Do you know how complicated/expensive something like that is? I didn't scan for codes because its stranded in my parking lot. I don't know anything about cars and was trying to get opinions from some people who do. Thanks for the response, I appreciate it.

Ok, there should be an electrical connection going to the transmission. You can google the location of the tcc connection for your vehicle. Unplug this connection. If the problem '"fixes" then it is the tcc solenoid. It is pretty extensive to fix, but you can drive with it unplugged. Your mileage will suffer though because the function of the tcc is to "lock" the trans in higher gears for highway travel.
