When shift lever is in Park the shift lights read neutral.

Asked by Jim Nov 25, 2013 at 11:49 AM about the 2000 Isuzu Rodeo LSE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Basically the shifter seems to be off by 2 gears.  Park on the shifter is actually neutral.  I am not able to engage park or reverse.  The shifter doesn't want to physically go below drive 3. Does this mean the physical linkage is broke or is this a computer problem?

I believe the the transmission mount is cracked or has changed position...inspect with a woodblock and floorjack~

haven't researched if this is a straight-shot into the transmission or a cable or linkages are involved here...clue me in as to the geometry there~
