Why is my truck making this sound?

Asked by Autumn Dec 31, 2020 at 11:03 AM about the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

** When I back up / pull forward and hit the brakes my truck brakes grind. I
can feel it in my pedal and my brakes do not function to their full expectancy.
My dash DOES NOT have a light ... however, I do get an e-mail from OnStar
stating that my ABS system has an issue and needs repair within 7 days. I
took my truck to GMC and they stated 'nothing is wrong with it' ; they ran a
scanner and it put out no codes. I continue to get the e-mails ... also my
brake pads are in good shape .... HELP!

Vehicles made since 1967 are required to have a brake system warning light. Set your parking brake to test the bulb. Grinding brakes are worn pads grinding against the rotors or worn shoes grinding against the drums. Occasionally worn bearings will grind. Have they been checked. If they didn't pull the wheels and physically look at the brake components, they don't know what's going on. This is not something a computer can diagnose. It requires good old fashioned looking and listening! Hope that helps! Jim
