2017 Malibu is overheating while speeding

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought 2017 Malibu, I had the car to undergo several checking
before buying everything was good. Now the car is overheating while driving
outside the city and while speeding from 100km/hr and above. But the
temperature is normal inside the city and the coolant temperature is 104 c.
I know this is weird issue and no one couldn't find the source of the problem.

Thank you

104 C is not overheating but it is a little high. You probably should have the cooling system serviced as your car is over 4 years old.

104C in normal driving inside the city while it reach becomes 120C on highway and the temp gauge is reading full. But the weird thing is I drive my car inside the city for 4 hours and the temperature gauge never increases!! one line below half!

Maybe use a non-contact temp gun to compare engine temp to what the gage is showing? Check for combustion gases in your coolant? Hope that's not it. Is coolant boiling, are you losing coolant?

Cooling fine at low speeds and overheating at high speeds can be a few things. A low coolant level, or air trapped in the system, a radiator that is likely plugged not allowing for proper cooling, or a defective fan or clutch fan. Like FOR suggested have the system served or looked at to find the issue.

Can you please tell me what to do first? Because today a technician told me I have to buy a new engine and replace it entirely which makes no sense to me!!
