how do I fix my heating/airconditioning? Do I have to take off the dashboard?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My heating and air does not work.  I have been told that it's either the switch or the fan that needs to be replaced.  I checked the fuse and It is good.  I know where the fan is located but the switch I believe is behind the dashboard.  The parts are available but should I have a trained mechanic work on this because I have no idea of how to take the dashboard off.

Lower fan or radiator fan? I would test fans first and see. Dashboards are not difficult just time consuming. Give yourself time, disconnect negative battery cable and then lay your sections out with bolts in a good spot so you know what goes with what. Make notes if you need to. It is not worth paying someone 1K to do something this easy. The first time I did this, I did what I said above. I fixed my AC. My wife was amazed at all the wires behind there. And that I attempted it. She was happy with the result. :)

Not sure on your model but some cars you can take different panels off and do not have to disassemble the entire dash. Is this switch area it's own section? Maybe take 2 sections off? One to get to screws for the one you want?
