Subaru Outback 2017 battery

Asked by GuruSPHBH Jun 11, 2019 at 08:00 AM about the 2017 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Battery died in the Subaru Outback. Bad
battery was just replaced with a new one a
few months ago (Feb) and now it is dead
again with no reason. Suspect it is something
more than just the battery. It took the dealer
10 days to diagnose and replace the battery
the first time. Now I can’t even schedule a
service appt for almost 1 month. What else
could be causing problem, if it isn’t just a
defective battery? Do I have to wait for a
month and go to dealer to have warranty
repair done?

This is a common problem with newer Subaru's due to the inadequate battery Subaru installs. You may get a new one under warranty but my suggestion is to get a high capacity battery such as Optima.

Even with a new higher capacity battery it happens on my car.

I left my 2017 outback hatch open overnight and of course battery dead next day. Charged it and car has been starting BUT all electrical icons on dash and "check engine" icon are on. I can't use any "Eye Site" functions including cruise. Called Subaru dealer, said to undo battery negative wire for 20 min. Said "9 out 0f 10 times" that will solve it. So I did that, worked for 2 days now have same issue with flashing icons. Another Subaru mechanic told me once I start and stop engine about 15 times it should go back to normal. I hate reading all your problems as I thought it would be simple. Ha. Stay tuned.

My 15 Forester had some programming issues which were fixed by setting the clock. Yes really.
