Would installing a battery thats too big overwork your alternator ?

Asked by roger Apr 20, 2013 at 01:45 AM about the 1999 Ford Escort 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Bought a rebuilt battery to replace my old rebuilt battery which lasted me 3 years . Only difference was they didnt have my size . The battery is about an inch too big for the tray and it sits on a small angle due to it being to wide for battery tray , the terminal post go on fine though , My battery light is on  , would the battery being too big for my car cause this ?

No. A larger battery would give you more power for starting. A battery light usually mean the alternator has stopped working.
