Oil viscosity

Question type: General
I have an 99 expedition, with 5.4 engine with 235,000 mile. I tow my boat with it & it pulls it no problem. I get about 10 mpg while towing. The owners manual says to use 5w30 oil, what viscosity oil should I use while towing? I will be going on a 1900 round trip vacation.
Thanks.

I do not see any reason to deviate from the manual or what you have been doing previously. Good Luck and have fun on vacation!
Ford specified 5W-20 oil but if that oil works well for you on your high mile Triton I would stick with it.
Sorry, I have been using 10 w 30. I use about 1 qt in 800 miles. If I use 5w30 do you think I will increase mpg at all, or see increased oil usage? Thanks
I doubt you would see much if any difference. Be happy that your engine still runs good at those miles. How often do you change oil? I have 185,000 on my F-150 Triton and still use 5W-20 and it uses less than a quart in 3,000 miles. I change the oil every 3,000 miles.
Yes, the engine does run run well, I do change the oil every 3 to 4000 miles. But it uses 1qt in 800 miles when towing, otherwise about 1 qt in 2000 miles. Thanks for your input!
