Key fob

Question type: General

I lost one of my key fobs.  Can I buy one online (much cheaper) and program it
myself?  If not, can a locksmith program it, or do I have to go to the dealer?  If I
have to take it to the dealer, will they even program a key fob that I purchased
online?  Thanks

Honda reserves the right to refuse programming of aftermarket fobs and they may void any existing warranty. The process is more involved and requires special tools to program. Some locksmiths may be able to program. I would call the local dealer and present a hypothetical for you bringing in an aftermarket fob and ask what it would take to program / if they would program. Unfortunately, after about 2010, not many cars have a method for self-programming. Keep in mind, every dealer will treat you / your situation differently.
