Does the front axles turn all the time even when it's not looked in if it's a allwheel drive .

On newer model four-wheel drive vehicles with automatic hubs, the front axle does turn but it is turning freely. When you engage four-wheel drive, the gears lock in the transfer case and power is applied through the prop shaft to the front differential. The only way to stop the front axle from turning while driving is to replace the automatic hubs with manual hubs which will unlock the front wheels from the axle when unlocked. Remember though, when you need four- wheel drive you will need to manually lock each of your front hubs AND shift into four-wheel drive as you do now.

if you have an awd (auto setting) explore then the front axles turn all the time, if its a 4X4 (2wd setting) the front avle should have a disengaugment point
