My ford explore wont stay running

My 1999 ford explorer was over heating on,the way
back from work i didn't push it to where it would
mess up worse. It was the thermostat. Now that I
changed it my car will start rev up to 3,000 rpms
and then die I can't figure out when I really really
need some help thanks

pull the oil fill cap and look on the bottom what do you see ?, what does the exhaust look like for the short time it runs ?
