How to stop leaving engine on after i have left the vehicle.

Asked by Guru9TM4MG Mar 31, 2021 at 05:39 PM about the 2017 Ford Focus Titanium

Question type: General

Several times I have left my vehicle and forgotten
to turn the engine button off. When I leave the car
no warning alarm goes off so its very easy to leave
the car without realizing. Just wondered if anyone
knew how to activate some kind of alarm a bit like
when you leave your lights on and the car warns
you as you get out.

I would suggest training your brain to push the engine button before you unbuckle your seatbelt. That way you can't get out until the engine is shut off. Say to yourself something simple like "button then belt" or maybe just "button belt". Make a little jingle in your head to help remind you. Like a little song maybe. Probably sounds a little silly, but I bet it'll work! Hope that helps! Jim

There's a warning in the system, u just have to activate it, it warns u that the door is open because it knows engine is still on. When u get in ur car and run engine, try opening the door and see if u get the warning, if not, turn in on.

Thanks. I just don't know how to activate. I have tried the settings in the car and none seem to do anything?

When u are inside the car with closed doors, the dome light should come on when u open the driver's side door, if it doesn't replace or adjust the door switch that's located towards the front of the door on the car body by the weather strip seal. If light does come on, then u need to activate it in the settings.
