Why do higher end models of MKX come with 20" wheels standard if larger wheels reduce smoothness of the ride?

Asked by Guru96MRV Jul 21, 2017 at 01:17 PM about the 2017 Lincoln MKX Reserve AWD

Question type: Car Customization

Considering purchasing a Lincoln MKX Reserve Model, and, as far as I know, it comes standard with 20" wheels, vs. the Select Model with 18" wheels. Test drove the Select, it was a very smooth ride. In the meantime, I was told that the larger the wheel, the less smooth the ride. Is that true and why? Any way to get around that?

Own a 2018 with 21” wheels and rides like a conastoga wagon. Never buy another one and I’m retired from Ford.
