I have a 99 explorer 4.0 and have heard it is a real pain to change plugs. is this true before I try to undertake this job?

If you don't have the proper tools and aren't up to the task have a mechanic, friend or dealership do the job. It is very doable by a do-it-yourselfer, but it is not a fun job.

My daughter has a 99 4.0 OHV and it was not particularly difficult. Just do it with a cold engine.
