2007 GMC Yukon Denali

I parked for a minute to check something.
Left the car running. I looked up and
noticed my battery light on and "service
battery charging system" message. It
wasn't on when I took the kids to school
this morning. Does this mean I'll need a
new battery soon?

I would have the alternator checked. It can be done at any big-name parts store. If not your battery will eventually discharge from being used at the primary source for power.
