It sounds like it's in "limp mode". That's when the computer is trying to protect the engine. Get the codes read at the parts store. Write down the trouble code numbers and post them here.

Mt 06 is doing the same issue. Codes are as follows. P0302 and P2305. Already replaced number 2 injector and TPS.
try changing the MAP sensor its the one right in front of the intake manifold my o4 was doing a similar thing I had changed a number of sensors and nothing changed till I pulled that sensor and ran it with out it in it ran just fine with no problems. so try that.
Same thing with my 88 Cherokee 4.0 anyone know the solution?
I am having the same issue with my 2005 Jeep Liberty, Wont go over 2500 RPM. I've changed out the MAP, Sensor Camshaft and Crankshaft sensors also the Throttle position sensor and I've attempted to reset the ECM/PCM several times now in order to clear the capacitors memory. It sounds great at idle though! lol .. I did recently replace the fuel pump as well. In fact, at this point, I'm really at a loss here as to why it doesnt go over 2500 RPM's ... I'm going to try and put a difference Camshaft sensor in as a test, just to be sure its not the actual new sensor thats throwing the code. Or if its an electrical problem somewhere with a short or whatnot.

Wow. I just got a huge car repair bill and they addressed everything that you guys have posted here in my 2004. I don't know the codes in mine but what could be the deal?? thomasbbaker@att.net if you want to help me out before I lose my mind! Peace
I just replaced the knock sensors last week, and got it all back together now.. **(except the 2 hoses that are supposed to slide over the ports on the backside of the intake manifold/ throttlebody .... I know that on the throttle body its vacuum, and the next port down on the manifold itself is supposed to be a water line , but I cannot for the life of me figure out what hose goes on the rear port of the back of the intake manifold. .. Any ideas, please hit me back either on here or email me directly stevewren@gmail.com ... thx
Possible Circuits burnt out in the PCM (computer.) I spent 8 weeks dealing with this issue, I started replacing parts and nothing changed. Ordered a rebuilt PCM from Flagship1 and it fixed my problem but now my transmissiin wouldnt shift.., replaced more parts, nothing. Put old unit back in and original problem showed back up and tranny shifted. I opened the PCM Module and I had 2 injector control chips burnt. Had nothing to do with all the parts I replaced. Just do not buy a rebuilt PCM from Flagship One Inc. Sent me three burnt units cost me 8 weeks and a nightmare still have a bad PCM. 3rd repkacement from them, 3 different issues. Original oroblem was a burnt chip for the number 6 cylinder coil-Limp mode at 2krpm. Replacement unit fixed that problem but had a transmission counter not cleared-wouldnt allow the jeep to shift, 3rd unit fixed those problems but had a burnt chip on the number 4 cylinder injector-Limp Mode 2krpm Your problem may be a bad PCM. You can probably buy a dinar PCM from a salvage yard and test your soldering skills. The bad chips will be obvious upon observation. Or find a reputable rebuilt PCM supplier.. $200+ bucks. Or salvage/Solder, or buy new. Vin number will need to be programmed I to a replacement unit so make sure who you get it from can program it in. Hope it helps someone.
This is exactly what a friend of mine‘s Liberty is doing I’m going to try your fix! Thanks for sharing.

I didn't get any trouble codes when I scanned .I tried disconnecting the positive battery lead for 5 minutes and reconnected it. Limp mode is gone and she runs good.. Hopefully it won't come back
Mine is cutting off at 2800 rpm. Just replaced the radiator and now it's shutting off. If I turn the ignition off and restart it , engine will rev normally...for about 10 seconds then does the 2800 shutdown again
So a year later, and another 2k of replacing parts, I did finally figured out that one of the catalytic converters had been completely clogged up. After I replaced those (as well as the rest of the exhaust system) , my Jeep ran freakin awesome after all that. And literally a week after that issue was fixed, my entire front suspension started falling apart piece by piece, I replaced the entire front suspension and shortly thereafter (figuratively of course) "pushed it off a tall cliff after it mysteriously caught on fire " . .... Lol.
