Go to Jeep.com and put in your VIN. You can print out the factory build sheet for your vehicle. But unless you have a Rubicon, you have a Dana 35 in back and a dana 30 in the front, and neither of them will support 35" wheels if you push them. 31 or above is asking for trouble. If your Jeep came with a 5-speed, you probably have 4:11 gearing. Here is a good Jeep axle article: http://www.fourwheeler.com/how- to/154-0708-weakest-to-strongest-axles/ I went to a Ford 9" posi rear end, but my 2003 doesn't have a stock motor.

Sorry, I didn't actually answer your question. Danas don't have quick- change gears - so you will have to rebuild the whole axle. But the really weak point of your axles are the housings. No matter what gearing you put in, they are still going to break. Find a strong axle with the same width, and wheel lugs, go to a drveshaft that will hancle it and has the right spline, and weld on the brackets and brakes. Then you can just bolt it up. But you have to switch front and rear at the same time or disconnect the transfer case until you change them. You will also have to get stronger transfer case drive shafts. Novak makes kits.
