2000 jeep cherokee larado

Asked by GuruY956B Feb 18, 2018 at 09:38 AM about the 2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4-Door RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife had her trany line come off and didn't
know the red stuff coming frome under her front
ump er was trany fluid. She drove it home, a little
over a mile, suiting out fluid the whole way. When I
looked at it, noticed the problem, put the line back
on it took 7 quarts to fill up. When I started it the
check engine lite was on. I put my code reader on
and got p0733. Gear ratio not matching 3rd gear.
When it shifts it won't go into 3rd without manual
shifting back down to 2nd then back to 3rd. When
in 3rd it slips real bad but Wil grab with enough
rpms. If I shift it back into 2nd it runs fine, but
that's leaving in 2nd.

Heat can destroy a transmission pretty quickly. You can pay for a computer diagnostic on the tranny but that'll run you $75-100, it *might* be fixable but you may want to start planning now on replacing tranny.
