OK What gas mileage can I get from 2000 Wrangler 4.0 6cyl 4 spd? Town and highway. forget offroad.

shOPPING FOR A WRANGLER.  Wife wants good mileage from the fun.  What can I tell her?

Tell her that the Wrangler, while the mileage is not the greatest, with the 4.0L engine and auto trans is one of the most durable powertrains out there. Typically they rust out long before the engine and trans have any major problems. You can probably expect around 16 city/21 highway at best. At least, this is what they were rated for. Mom and dad's 1992 Jeep Cherokee with same engine and trans returned about 15-16 mpg average all the time.

got a 00 wrangler sport with a 4.0L and a 5_speed. when it was stock it got almost 17 mpg. now its getting around 13mpg. course i need to fix the exhaust...

My 4.0L gets bout 17mpg and thats with 160000 miles on it. you probably won't get to much better than 20 on the highway
