stainless trim

There is some stainless trim on the top of my 57 Fairlane that I'm curious about.  
can some one tell me the the story on this stainless trim?  Just check out the
pics and you can see what im talking about.  It is above the windshield and
back glass, and over both passenger windows on the top.  thanks

Story? Part of the styling. The front has a vestigial visor like some other cars of this year. My 57 Chrysler 300 had something similar but in 58 they dropped it and picked up a few mph in top speed.
