Tire carrier

Asked by Jacob Dec 05, 2019 at 03:17 PM about the 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4-Door 4WD

Question type: General

I recently picked up a swing away tire carrier for
my jeep xj off another xj at a junkyard.  The bolts
that hold the swing away arm onto the mounting
bracket were stripped and broken. If anyone could
point me in the right direction as to where to get
some new ones or if anyone has any ideas for
replacements at all I'd love to hear them. I've
uploaded a picture of the same tire carrier. Thank
you.

Take the broken bolts (if you have them) to a local hardware store and match them up.

I tried that and nobody around here seems to have anything remotely close to what I'm needing.

What do you mean by nothing remotely close? I have a very hard time believing you can't get bolts locally. These days most everything is metric if that helps. You could also contact the maker of the tire carrier for replacement bolts.

I'll have to take some pictures of the bolts but they are unique looking. At least for the stores around here.
