The oil pressure gauge goes down to zero when the car slows down and stops. It goes back up to 40 when the car gets moving again

okay this might be one in which the oil pump is part of the timing cover...relatively easy fix if this is your configuration...rebuild...the front end...may as well put a new chain or chains and fresh sprockets too~
