Rear axle noise

Asked by jflnasa Jan 15, 2014 at 01:04 PM about the 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The vehicle is a 1997 cherokee sport standard shift with 255 K miles on it. My specific
question is as follows: there appears to be a axle bearing noise that did not go away
after I replaced the bearing. The rear axle is of the Eaton type, not a Chrysler rear axle.
I have verified the lash for both the ring and pinion and spyder gears, they are within
factory limits. Just a note Mobilone synthetics have been used in this vehicle since it
has had a 1000 miles on it and I am the original owner. Any suggestions?
