96Jeep overheating

Asked by FordnMoparbruh Nov 08, 2019 at 12:04 AM about the 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country 4-Door RWD

Have replaced everything that has to do with the
cooling system. (radiator, water pump, thermostat)
etc. The guy I bought it from had the head
reworked on it.  Well, sense then it has been a
wonder what is wrong. No oil in water, no white
smoke, no indication of a blown head gasket. Any
ideas, other than pull the head and see what is
restricting water circulation. Oh, I drilled hole in my
thermostat and still doesn’t seem to flow as a
constant sense how one would assume it to be free
flowing now with no restriction. Please some idea!!!!
Any will help. I completely done the whole cooling
system.

The thermostat is not designed to be free flowing at all but rather a restricted flow to permit coolant to cool in the radiator prior to reentering the engine. That's what the cross ports do. It stays closed until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.Keep in mind a thermostat can stick closed and need to be replaced. You may either have not filled the coolant all the way without permitting the system to purge or you may have a temperature sending unit malfunction or radiator fan problem. If you are not using antifreeze ( just water ) you may not see smoke out the exhaust. I would do a chemical block test to rule out a blown head gasket. You can get one on amazon for around $35

make sure the fan is operational at normal operating temp ( turning on ) when hoses are warm or hot. If both heater core hoses are warm it is circulating
