what would cause my 1995 jeep cherokee 4.0 to die or run like crap, it starts fine,idles fine, but when you put in gear it may go a little ways then stall, or it start running really rough?

I had the fuel filter changed, the computer and coil changed? the motor starts right up but
when you put it in gear it wants to die ?

ooooof, the motor has a jumped timing chain....pull the timing cover and inspect the timing marks....~ https://www.google.com/#q=1995+jeep+cherokee+4.0+timing+chain

would that allow the motor to run fine in reverse? because it only stalls and dies in drive.

okay....the motor don't run in reverse...counterclockwise only...all components...the transmission has a reverse...if you need it~

"run fine?" like the Smokesignals chevy did? think you mean will stay running...is an anomaly on account the engine timing seems to be off...use a compression tester to check each cylinder~

Check your ignition switch brain box under the dash on drivers side connected to steering column Auto Zone can check it out to see if it's bad or not
