Engine knock in Jeep Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport. The engine has been making a rattling/buzzing
noise that gets louder (as if flipping a switch) when I turn on the AC. Sounds like
something is loose. Then, it started making a knocking noise, coming from the rear of
the engine. Mechanics listened for a minute and say I have a bent/broken rod, or a
broken/cracked 'part' that connects the crank to the driveshaft. Say I need to just
replace motor. Any ideas?

Get a second opinion. That diagnoses is all over the place. It doesn't make much sense.

Thanks. Dropped a rebuit engine in ultimately. However, now I am experiencing the 'death wobble'. Google 'death wobble Jeep Cherokee'... Replaced the dampener, still has rough patch at 55mph, but somewhat improved. All other steering components are tight.
