Typically you do need what is called a "pickle fork" for separating lower ball joints from where they are mounted. These run about $10-20. Other specialty tools may include a drill (if the ball joints are riveted in) and a hammer as well as the standard wrenches and etc.
it should just come out with a big hammer or a press, i'e replaced mine a few times and it wasnt hard
To me, it looks like there is a lip on the lower b-joint that rests on the a-frame, and a metal retaining clip that fits on the underside of the a-frame to keep it in place. If this is true, then basically all I would have to do is remove the nut from the topside and the retaining clip from the backside....and with a hammer, pop them out. Seems pretty straightforward?!? Any suprises?
