Are they both the same transmission ? (AODE, AOD or E4OD ?) Are they both the same engine ? Do they both use the same transmission to frame crossmember and transmission rubber mount to the crossmember ? After those questions are answered, (and yes is the answer to all the questions asked) here are the steps to exchange the transmissions - 1) raise vehicles and SECURELY block or use jack stands. 2) drain both trans of fluid 3) remove starter(s) 4) remove transmission case front lower shield and disconnect flexplate bolts. 5) remove driveshaft(s) 6) remove speedo cable or electrical connector from side of trans 7) remove shifter linkage 8) place transmission jack under trans and "snug up" to bottom of 1st transmission to be removed. 9) remove trans crossmember from vehicle (you might need to lift trans a little with jack. 10) Move trans from engine just a little and use a wire coat hanger (cut and opened or other wire) to secure torque converter to transmission housing (so it doesn't drop out). 11) Lower transmission from auto. 12) repeat process on auto #2. 13) reverse process to re-install and refill with fluid before starting vehicle. If for some reason you don't feel confident with my directions, then go to "www.Chiltons.com" or another website like "www.TheRangerStation.com" and look up the process there. Check out my "page" and select the picture of the Ford Ranger which will show you all the cars I have built over the years.
