what does it mean to "advance the timing?"

you need a timing light and on the front of the engine youll need to look for the timing marks usually in 5 degree increments you'll advance the timing by loosening the distributoe and turning it till the markk on belt matches up with what you want.i wouldn't go more than a couple of degrees to start.there should be 1 bolt on dist to loosen.
when you advance timing you are asking the engine to spark the gas earlier than what its set at
advancing your timing will do no good, for one reason you are in a higher alitude and need adjustmas to the thiner air.
dont mess with the timing until u set the air fuel mixture
you have a 93 yj timing is set electronically you cannot mov the distributor to advance it like on some other cars
dude, visit your local dealer and have a high altitude compensator module installed...hope this helps

You can change the ignition timing in cars you can change the position on the distributor, but in your jeep they change electronically!
