How to identify gear ratio on 93 wrangler dana 35 no tags of diffs

Asked by oldjeep90 Sep 20, 2010 at 11:29 PM about the 1993 Jeep Wrangler Sahara

Question type: General

I bought this new in 93 and ordered it with all options dont know why but I cannot remember if the upgrade included the 3.73 rear end, I do know that its a Dana 35 and there are no tags on either axle can I tell by VIN or am I going to be counting teeth?

my buddy has a 93 wrangler. the tag on the diff says 3.07 elsewhere we found that 3.55 is stock gearing for d35s. he has factory towing package so it could be a 3.73. we were told to jack up the rear end mark the drive shaft and spin the rear tires. the # of times the shaft goes around per 1 rotation of tire spin is your ratio. we got 1.5.......? wtf right. so in short your best bet is to pop the cover and count the teeth
