Gas pedal stops working then works again. Shakes violently upon startup

Asked by Bubsty Jul 26, 2018 at 10:41 PM about the 1999 Ford Ranger XL Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

For the past few weeks my truck has been violently shaking upon startup and
then dying. This (so far) has only happened when I have driven the truck a
couple miles that day. When I am able to get the truck running it does a strange
thing where the gas pedal stops working, I could have my foot to the floor and it
goes nowhere. About 3 seconds after it accelerates normal. I had a check
engine light on for which I checked the codes, and did the suggested
maintenance of replacing my MAF. This problem tends to get more severe the
more I drive it in a given day. What could be the culprit? Thanks for any help

@F_O_R yeah some of them look like crap, some of the spark plugs have quite some age to them. But is it even possible that that could be the cause of my problem ?

@F_O_R but the whole gas pedal not working makes me suspicious. Could plugs cause that?

Fix the obvious problem first and then get back to me. If your tires were flat would you worry about the gas pedal?
