Taking car through automatic car wash

When I pull into automatic car wash where one
wheel rides on track in neutral - I can’t slip into drive
when need be?

Probably have to wait until the very end. Then momentarily press the brake pedal to allow you to put it in gear.

Why would you put your car into drive in the car wash? Wait until the car wash indicates it is time to drive away.
