Car computer Diagnostic ability

Asked by GuruDLRF9Z Mar 13, 2025 at 08:19 AM about the 2017 Kia K900 V8 Luxury

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car a 2017 KIA K900 V8. While driving in Mexico, I ran over something
that sheared the oil filter off, causing the oil to immediately leak out, resulting
in a seized engine. The insurance company claims that the seized engine
was caused by improper maintenance and was my fault. What will the car
computer diagnostics show, which would prove the accident was caused by
sudden oil loss?

I don't believe it will show anything but I could be wrong. In my opinion the best thing to do is speak with either your local Kia Dealer's service department or Kia Customer Service. The problem with this is the vehicle has a warning system, a light and/or gauge that would have alerted you to the sudden loss of oil pressure the instant it happened. You should have turned off the engine immediately to avoid engine damage. Jim

2017 the computer system was not that smart even in high luxury vehicles let alone a KIA. So no there won’t be any information. Like James stated the warning light should have been paid attention too.
