Water filling in all doors and remaining in door until door's are opened then they drain.
Asked by GuruDPZ9X Sep 12, 2017 at 03:24 PM about the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox 1.5T Premier FWD
Question type: General
We just purchased a 2018 Chevy Equinox and after
every rain water filles up in all four doors and sits
in the door until all the door's are opened. The car
has been back at Serpentini Chevrolet service
department and they said they don't know why the
door's fill up and only drain if you open the doors
and we're waiting for Chevy headquarters to get
back to them with a fix.My wife just got a call from
Chevy resolution center telling her that water
sitting in the doors is"normal" does this sound
normal?

No not normal, the weather stripping is not installed correctly. May can get a body shop to figure it out.

That above a URL to a post 6years ago about leaking issues with these cars and had more info you may can use or need.

I would take it back if its still under the time limit for full refund and but something else not the same brand.
We have had the car back at the dealership several times, the mechanics can't explain it but Chevy is saying that it's normal?did I mention that the car is less than 2 months old! Please do some research before buying a Chevy Equinox.

Sorry your having trouble, yes these are known for leaking in the back, and well just about everywhere.
I feel your pain!!! If you look around here, I believe I'm the one that started this whole thing, my 2017 equinox does this and now there are SEVERAL instances!! Here's the thing to impress on CHEVROLET, if this is normal, WHY do most of these vehicles NOT LEAK?? SOMETHING is wrong and they do not know what it is. BUT IT"S NOT NORMAL!! Keep me updated...duder
Maybe you can make a slice, with a razor knife, directly under the 2 drain holes on the moldings, or remove a small piece of the rubber. Not much else you can do safely.
We thought of that, but, at this stage, we were afraid "that" kind of action could be used as "Violating" the warranty. You know GM!! We're hoping that they'll eventually recall for a fix...HOPING!! Thanx for your input.
Same issue here with the water in the doors. I've also had a speaker replaced once and it still sounds really bad with some songs. We've adjusted the base, it's the speaker quality. But, water in the doors is frustrating

I went down bottoms of doors (layed on the ground & got soaked) and drilled holes 1/2in. just be sure the holes are where the water will drain out of the interior and not inside. I could not believe how much water was inside those doors, my dad said I hear water sloshing around, thats what I found alright.
enginecreator answered 6 years ago
Water is heavy, if there is a five gallon bucket of water in each door, that has to be an issue GM should be ashamed of if they do not fix/recall.

Put 1/2in rubber hole grommets "kind with holes in the rubber to let water drain out" inside those holes so it looks professional, also they will have to locate the drain holes themselves.
I also have the water in the door issue with my '18 Equinox. As with some others, the dealership tells me this is "normal". It. Is. NOT. "Normal". I've had several vehicles over the past 40 years and not a single one of them held water in the door after a rain. I'm also having a separate issue with water inside the vehicle that they tell me is because the drains from the sunroof are clogged at the windshield from debris from the tree I park under, so the water is running between the roof and headliner and out a drain in the back of the vehicle inside the cargo area. As a result, the cargo storage/spare tire area and the floor in the back seat are flooded. It's in the shop now to have the headliner replaced and the carpet, etc dried out. Now they're telling me the door issue is because of the sunroof drain being clogged.

We noticed water in the doors spilling over into cabin/interior when raining or sloshing around from the interior side of the doors threw the holes for door panel mounts or speakers holes or something ect. I drilled extra holes for water to drain and have to push a screw driver into them from time to time to clear the hole from clogging from I think is rust, We had the door weather stripping redone and then we had the wind shield weather stripping redone, still waiting to find out if it helped or not we also had the interior dried out, pulled the carpet out and dried so we have not drove it much but did yesterday after a rain and did not hear water in doors and we do not have sun roof so maybe it has helped. I had already months ago drilled out the door bottoms and think that the interior getting totally drenched later was from the wind shield weather stripping being poorly installed or bad design.

As a side note I noticed the rear view mirror in the floor about a week ago. I do not know what to think about that. Could be from extra moisture inside. But it cost over $400 to have the interior dried and new weather stripping done and a week+ in the shop.
2017 equinox power lift gate filling with water...anyone else have this issue or know of a fix? drain hole is not clogged.
I fixed my 2017 Equinox door seal water retention problem by winding some 3/4" wide, black Gorilla tape around the door weather stripping at the bottom of the door (not the weather stripping on the car frame). I did this in 2 places one each door, toward the back of the door near one of the weather strip weep holes (between the points where weather strip attaches to door) and toward the front of the door near another weep hole. The purpose was to create a small break in the seal between the weather stripping and the metal door frame. I don't know why or how water gets backed up into the door sills, but this fix allows a gap for the water to drain. To get sufficient thickness without having to wind the tape as much, I cut a piece of rubber band about 1/2" wide and 3/4" long, and embedded that in the tape toward the side facing the metal door sill for added bulk, then wound the tape at least one more revolution around it. The black tape against the black door seal, at the bottom of the door is not very noticeable, and it did the trick for my car. Good luck.
I gave up fighting with the dealership and those above them, they just wear you down!! What you did was what I did...a little different way. I went to the hardware store, bought a length of clear, soft vinyl tubing about an 1/8th of an inch thick, cut 4 lengths about 4-6 inches long, pulled the bottom door seal out (ON THE DOOR) and just draped the tubing around the seal and let it hang, not very noticeable and each door now no longer dumps water upon opening. Like I said, you did the same thing a different way! Good Job!
I have an 02' Buick Regal LS that the doors also fill with water after rain. You don't even have to drive it for this to happen.. When I open the door(s) the water drains out in a stream for several seconds. The weird thing is this vehicle has no rust.. My 08' Silverado was rusting badly after 8 years, the Buick has no rust on any panels or doors after 18 years and we live where they salt the roads in winter. I make it a habit to open the doors on the Buick after it rains or after driving in the rain to let the doors drain. LOL... BTW; there may not be any rust but THREE of the four power windows have failed, most likely related to the water issue IMO

Just tried to have my door "repaired", but after charging me $100 for their time, I was told the door worked just as designed, & that the door filling with water was normal. Then why does only 1 door do it. I've been a Chevy buyer for almost 50 years, but ready to look at something else. Pissed, & confused as to what I should do now.
