Car Braking

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I daily drive a 99 ranger XLT 4x4. The truck is the 4L V6 with less than 80k miles. Sometimes the brake pedal has a quick reaction. Other times I have to push down farther to start braking. Also while completely stopped the pedal will sink. Why is this?

Sounds like your master brake cylinder is worn out and ready to fail. I would have it evaluated by a qualified mechanic, and possibly get it replaced soon.

I would bleed the system then , You can lightly press on the brake (lightly ) and if it goes to the floor I would say the master cylinder is bad , if it has ABS brakes bleed the system with the abs activated at a shop , of course there may be a vacuum leak in the power brake system
