Brand new truck with OLD body

Asked by johnnytruck Sep 14, 2018 at 05:28 PM about the 1960 Chevrolet C/K 10 Standard

Question type: Car Customization

I am interested in getting and old Truck Body Like a 1958 chevy but with brand
new engine/transmission/suspension etc..    I am by no means a truck/car guy
and would have to pay someone to do this.    I am not even sure what to call
the combination of old/new that I'm looking for.

I want an old looking truck that I can drive daily, take on road trips, tow trailers,
and go off road without the fear of it breaking down.

Any guidance is appreciated.   Where do I start this journey?  How much $
would this end up costing me?   I see some for sale for under $20k that are
"close" to what I'm looking for.  But maybe a custom build is the way to go?

If you look long enough you might find one that some has converted to modern running gear. Having a pro do the conversion right would run over a hundred grand.

Be very careful with existing trucks as those that look good may still take tens of thousands to sort out properly.

If you have the bucks such a project would be cool and it is 100% doable. The down side is you can spend $150,000 on a project and have a cool show winner that would sell for $50,000 on a good day. Find one that some one else has spent their life savings on and buy it for pennies on the dollar!

Man that is depressing. I was hoping to spend like 20k MAX maybe 30k if its super duper nice with insulated cab and automatic transmission etc. As far as the body goes I'm actually kind of interested in one thats still rusty and dinged up. It would look like a junker but be new everywhere but the exterior. Or maybe one of them rustic paint jobs that look old. Thanks for the help though!

Just the body work and paint on that truck done right would eat up close to 20 grand.
