Truck stalling out in Drive and reverse

Asked by PaulDFW Nov 01, 2016 at 09:52 PM about the 1978 Chevrolet C/K 10 Custom Deluxe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently started acting up on the road.
Need help pretty fast any leads wI'll be
taken.
WHAT I GOT: 1976 CHEVY C10 350V8
AUTO. HOLLY CARB .

RECENT WORK: CARB REBULID

PROBLEM : the truck was running fine a
few days ago , recently when I've been
putting into drive and reverse the truck
stalls. Currently carburetor does not have
filter.  Turning the gas filter line, correctly
to carb (dumb me) fixed well enough to
get to the gas station with about 4 stops
along the way didn't die. When I shut the
truck off at station and back on. The
problem came back.

Any advice is welcome
Thanks

Add an inline fuel filter if you don't have one. Check the idle speed and adjust it if it is low. Do a tuneup if the engine needs it.

I adjusted the floats today cause there was too much gas in them. I can put the truck in Drive and it won't stall. The problem now is the idle when in drive.... IT jumps up and down on rpm, then it will stabilize for a moment then rough idle again. The lights will also go dim during this repeated cycle.
