Can I reroute serpentine belt around AC?

Asked by DadBlair Nov 29, 2016 at 02:53 PM about the 2004 Kia Sedona LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

AC compressor keeps going out. I would like to reroute a shorter belt around
the alternator bypassing the compressor. Is this possible?

You can try but you will have to closely examine the setup to see if it is possible but I doubt it.

You can't but you may be able to purchase a pulley and bracket that will replace the A/C compressor and allow you to keep the original belt.

Since AC was probably an option a KIA dealer might be able to set you up with the correct parts for a non-AC car.
