Question type: Maintenance & Repair
it has 88.000 miles on it and it part of the time doesn't want to start after it is warmed
up if you let it sit for awhile it will start back up. The person we got it from says when
it happens the power windows will not work as well but i'm not sure of that yet. any
ideas?

i have an '88 taurus wagon with the 3 liter. had that problem a couple years ago. replaced the starter solenoid,starter,3 battery cables (neg. , pos. to solenoid and solenoid to starter) no more problem! side note-my wife drives this car and i had replaced the battery, and then the alternator, a few months earlier due to a recurring 'no start and get out the jumper cables'issue. so i did the solenoid/cables/starter repair to make sure i got it the first time!( y'know,if Momma ain't happy.......) try jumping across the solenoid with a screwdriver the next time it acts up,if it starts, replace that and see if your problem goes away. also, look at the plug on the alternator,if the wires at the plug are frayed any at all, replace the plug. get one at any auto parts store.
if the vehicle cranks and doesnt start most likely its the fuel pump. if its a no crank no start then a possible starter motor or a relay that is failing when warm
