Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car makes a very loud grinding/rubbing
sound sometimes. If I tap my brakes the
noise stops but comes right back when I
release brake.  Get the noise on uneven
pavement also.  It is not a bearing noise
and it only happens when I am far away
from a garage or someone else to hear it

Thank you for your quick response but I have disc brakes. The noise is in the same category of drum brakes gone bad. I have replaced all 4 rotors, brake pads, bearings (now hubs), ball joints. I'm at a loss.
